Points to Ponder

Is Fusion Applications or Middleware? Both!

Fusion Middleware takes the best of the best from OAS (Oracle Application
Server) and combines it with other technology stack components. You do not have to wait for Middleware,
its available today! Fusion Applications is marketed as the amalgamation of the E-Business, Manufacturing, and CRM suites. Oracle plans to offer Fusion Applications in 2008.

Is the Fusion Application a “code merge?"

Maybe, maybe not. Oracle acquired People Soft, JD Edwards, Retek, and Siebel with the intent to re-architect the E-Business Suite and blending the best of the best from these acquired products. But Oracle is marketing the E-Business Suite as the data model or foundation if you will for Fusion.

Okay, if Fusion is EBS on steroids, do you upgrade, migrate, or re-implement?

Count on a combination of all three. Mudding the decision-making process is R12. Release 12 has 12 new modules and over 2,300 new features. But do customers need to be on R12 as part of the migration path to Fusion? Going to R12 will give customers a taste of things to come but….

Fusion Feature Requests

Have you had to customize a module to get the features you need? Would additional functionality save you time and money? Are you living with a work around that is increasing your cost of ownership? In the June 21st edition of eOAUG news, they once again announced that members and Oracle Applications users were welcome to submit thieir feedback on strategic improvements to current Oracle E-Business Suite functionality for their initial Fusion releases. To date over 1100 users have logged a request. To learn more about how to use the OAUG ERS, visit http://oaug.org/resources/featurerequest.html.
